the touchpad works fine on the live gui but i can't make it work in my gentoo installation.

fordfrog,
an i2c touchpad needs several options in the kernel configuration you dont see at all when you boot with our distribution kernel (e.g. you dont see pinctrl driver because it is compiled statically into the dist kernel; but you need pinctrl for i2c; if you have a designware PCI controller you will need also some options). If you give me your kernel .config I could check it out (I would need your "lspci -nnk" also).

thanks a lot, you rock! i went through your guide, the parts i was missing was alderlake pin controllers and designware pci core support. and now the touchpad works, thanks!
