PostPosted: Mon Oct 28, 2024 1:39 pm    Post subject: [SOLVED]Asus ROG Strix G814JI ALC294 no sound only via spkrs Reply with quote

i guess there must be some issue with the pinning to the speakers of the laptop as the sound works through headphones plugged to the jack and also via bluetooth connected devices. it also worked in windows when this laptop had windows. the sound doesn't work when using live gui either. so maybe just the model used when loading the module is not correct.

Code:
# grep -i snd /var/log/dmesg
[    8.511550] usbcore: registered new interface driver snd-usb-audio
[   10.380248] snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1f.3: bound 0000:00:02.0 (ops 0xffffffffb3b02fa0)

i have to unload the sound module and reload it after startup so that it initializes correctly, as after the system boots, the sound doesn't work without unloading and reloading the module.

i use this to load the module:

Code:
options snd-hda-intel model=alc294

here is some more info:

man, i thought this one is gonna be a harder one for you  thank's a lot! setting CONFIG_SERIAL_MULTI_INSTANTIATE=y brought me sound through the speakers! either this setting is not in the live gui or there was another issue as i had no sound there too.

i still have that weird startup issue though (i noticed i didn't post the whole output after the module reload, this is already with working sound):

[   62.592636] snd_hda_intel 0000:01:00.1: Disabling MSI

i (foggily) recall the issue started when i played with some soc stuff in the kernel probably, in an attempt to make the sound work. i'll check whether i can get rid of the issue.

once again, thank you for your help!

What I always recommend with a manual kernel configuration is: not only to boot with our gentooLiveCD but also with an UbuntuLiveCD (here you can see e.g. the pinctrl driver, because in Ubuntu's kernel these are configured as <M>modules). Then I also do an “lsmod” (and compare this lsmod output with that of Gentoo; I also check the output of “dmesg” on both). But if NVIDIA also comes into play, it becomes “difficult” ...

Do you use our stable gentoo-sources or 6.11? (I guess you have a very new machine and therefore I always recommend the newest kernel).

i'm on 6.11.5-gentoo-r1. (i'm a gentoo dev so living on ~amd64 on my machines, except my servers, those are amd64) but i have this laptop for over a year already i guess. i tried to solve those issues back then but i didn't succeed so i just laid that off and revisited it several times with no success. until i asked here (you). kernels weren't that complicated 20 years ago....
