Hello

A couple of days ago I have installed the gentoo-kernel package, to have some modules build in. At the moment I do not need these modules anymore and these can be left as dynamic modules, not built-in.

I wanted to switch from gentoo-kernel package to gentoo-kernel-bin, but emerge has given me a blocked packages message.

Code:

emerge --ask --verbose gentoo-kernel-bin

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

How would it be better to proceed. First deselect gentoo-kernel with emerge --deselect gentoo-kernel then emerge --ask --verbose gentoo-kernel-bin? This is what I was thinking of doing, but was unsure.

Regards

Hello!
this is right. deselect gentoo-kernel, deepclean, then you can emerge -av gentoo-kernel-bin

If I were you, I'd wait for gentoo-kernel-bin-6.6.59 to become available, then ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~arch" that one and emerge it. It's scary to depclean your (only) working kernel if something goes wrong, even if chances for that happening are low.

I did not do a depclean, but pretend doing it, with emerge -ac. Was curious, but nothing was cleaned.

I did this in one session, switching from gentoo-kernel to gentoo-kernel-bin. In case of a problem, I have my backups on the USB, so that i can always boot to my older kernel.
