Chromium, Firefox and thunderbird start very slow and afterwards stay very slow.
A ping to any address is fast.
Tryed different versions of all programs.
Videocard: nvidia 1080 Ti use nvidia-drivers (several versions tested)
Rest of system runs good, playing flac via audacious during startup of any of the programs sound with no hics or so.
System was updated yesterday, with no difference for the problem.
What info would help to solve this problem.
Already found lots of suggestion via google but no help.

On another hardware, my laptop with ubuntu, everything is ok.
On the same hardware with ubuntu everything is ok.
Startup is really slow, and opening any website is slow.
Memory usage is 3 GB out of 131.1 GB.
Processor usage in idle is very low on the 40 threads.
When Chromium is started some theads go to 100%
After some 40 second they al go idle.
Now when filling in this post mostly also all idle; from thtime to time 1 thread to 100% for about 5 seconds.
Memory usage stays at 3.1 GB.
Just opening a new tab trigers again 100% for 1 to 3 threads afer 30 second again idle. |

In Firefox check with about:processes what's eating up the resources. |

Is it really the same hardware? What I'm trying to get at is disk, which hasn't been mentioned so far. Was Ubuntu and Gentoo tested on the same drive? Could be a bad disk. |

Both partitions are on the same raid1 array: 2 SSD's of 1TB. |

Renamed both ~/.config/chromium and .mozilla
Both chromium and firefox behave normal. |

Copied the renamed chromium to chromium and.. chromium starts very fast and browsing is also very fast????
For firefox just renamed the firefox back to the original name and surpise; also start and browsing very fast.
Did nothing to thunderbird and this one also is fast now.
The homedirectory is on a raid array5 of 6 18TB harddisks: TOSHIBA MG09ACA18TE 0104.
a dd from /dev/random to a file on my homedir:
57472450560 bytes (57 GB, 54 GiB) copied, 189 s, 304 MB/s
Maybe to much fragmentation? |

I fact this is not a solution; all history password's cookies and so on are gone in that way.
See previous post for the solution |
