Hi,

Sometimes I see small, sometimes blinking, white square on some forum pages, has anybody else noticed that? I am not sure if it is firefox, gentoo or phpBB related, I have never noticed it anywhere else. It changes location when I scroll the page, but tends to stay in the same column. It is also visible on screenshots.

Code:
zucca@NBLK-WAX9X ~ $ qlist -Iv firefox
www-client/firefox-128.3.1

I haven't noticed such square.

Maybe you have some extension which causes it?

This sounds a bit like the caret browsing accessibility feature is active.

This could be it.

Here is the documentation for Firefox: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/accessibility-features-firefox

It does not seem to be the case as:
  • I have 'Always use the cursor keys to navigate within pages' disabled
  • when I enable it, it produces standard looking text cursor (much thinner and taller).

Maybe it some sort of rendering artifact...

Never seen it. Are you able to right click it and "inspect element"?
Zoom might help with that [Ctrl][+]

When I try to use inspect(q) I see just <th>Topics, but I am not really familiar with web developer tools. Square disappears (maybe it just moves) and reappears with zoom level. I start to suspect that it may be related to mpv playing vaapi accelerated video, but its hard to be certain as square is difficult to spot if it does not appear on that purple stripe due to lower contrast.
