OpenVPN Connection Not Working With NetworkManager

I recently switched from dhcpcd for networking to networkmanager. I have a VPN that I connect to manually with openvpn, and it connects fine with networkmanager, but I cannot load any webpages, and I get "Temporary failure in name resolution" when trying to ping servers. It seems to be a DNS issue, because when I disconnect from the VPN, networkmanager does not update /etc/resolv.conf, and I am still unable to connect until I restart networkmanager.
