Disclaimer: I only started using KDE a year or two ago. I'm a long-time fluxbox user, but finally gave in so I could get a taskbar, with cool buttons on it that managed bluetooth and network connections (like all the cool kids have)... I periodically (far too infrequently if you read my post history) run an update - I don't know what plasma or wayland are, and don't really care. I just want a low maintenance desktop.
All that said, I think I've got a problem... I noticed a few months ago after an update, that a handful of icons in KDE were broken - buttons in the taskbar are missing icons. They still work, but I am clicking in empty space. Windows aren't properly rendered when shaded - a black box around the window frame remains, and if I move the title bar, it radiates wildly about the screen.
I've gone through 3 or 5 world updates since noticing this.
I have kwayland, kwin, plasma-desktop, and plasma-meta in my world file. I don't know if any of those are redundant, or if any should be replaced / removed.
I ran an emptytree emerge of kwayland, kwin, plasma-desktop and plasma-meta overnight. After a reboot, things are still broken.
FWIW, my profile had been default/linux/amd64/23.0/systemd (stable), and I just changed it to default/linux/amd64/23.0/desktop/plasma/systemd to see if that has a positive effect.
I've read through the gentoo wiki regarding KDE installation and didn't see anything useful...
What'd I miss? Thanks! |

Yeah, alright... I guess I fixed it.
After changing the theme a couple times, updating my profile and running emerge --newuse and rebooting, KDE seems OK.
No idea what broke, but it's been unbroken. |

Did you have a 3rd party theme in use? KDE Plasma 6 upgrade news item did mention best to switch to standards before upgrading. Also, a missing dispatch-conf, that you incidentally did run after your emerge --newuse @world, but missed doing immediately after KDE Plasma and Frameworks upgrade, may have been the cause. We'll never know. |
