Hi

I tried booting the Gentoo 1.4 stage 1 livecd at a computer with aic7xxx controller installed (Adaptec 29160). There are only a SCSI-based CD-ROM drive and a SCSI based harddisk. This results in an error, not capable of mounting the cdrom-drive. This means I get no possibility installing at all.

I tried to use this parameter
gentoo doscsi

but it just stops loading when trying to test for aic7xxxold driver.

Please help me out. I have a couple of machines to install - all making me trouble.

Thanks
Preben

You might try the knoppix boot floppy method. Just do a search in "Forum: Documentation, tips and tricks" for knoppix or look at the Alternative Installation Guide

Well, I don't like it that way, but hey maybe that's the only way.

But what bothers me is, that I had no trouble installing at that machine when gentoo 1.2 was released. So Gentoo 1.2 can be installed without any problem, but not 1.4

That's odd, because my system has an IDE HDD, an IDE CD-ROM, and a SCSI CD-Rom. The only one the LiveCD didn't pick up was the IDE CD-ROM. But the SCSI worked perfectly...

Then use the 1.2 cd. Download a newer stage tarball or not when you "emerge rsync" youll bootstrap the lates stuff.
