Compiling lead to an internal compiler error, which is most often a compiler bug, but could be a hardware fault.
Was your current gcc compiled with the same flags?

I think I found the issue. I had to reset bios to normal. I had a mix of ram stick from two vendors but same clockspeed because of which the xmp profile wasn't stable, so I had to increase the dram voltage in bios which I believe caused this issue. It was stable in windows but not in gentoo.
