Hello, I am having problems with booting my Gentoo; after loading grub config file manually (because I hadn't flashed a new one yet), screen turns black for a brief moment and then goes back to GRUB with 'loading initramfs...' (or something along those lines) and gets stuck there. Some info; is an x230 laptop with Libreboot and fully encrypted root. I boot the BIOS way (I think. I didn't compile EDK2 or anything else that resembles EFI) and a GPT partition table.

GRUB config that I load
Code:

My first thought was that it's a framebuffer problem, but after messing with relevant settings in the kernel for a while I don't think this is the case :/

What let you believe this is not the case?

Your graphic card have no "Kernel driver in use:" line.

Kaidezee,

first of all: Welcome to Gentoo Forums! :D

You are missing this option in your kernel:
Code:
# CONFIG_DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION is not set

Because you are using 6.12.6 I suggest this article:
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Pietinger/Experimental/Manual_Configuring_Current_Kernel
(and please listen to the sentence in red ;-) )

I guess this is due he booted with our Gentoo-Minimal-Admin-CD and NOT with our Gentoo-LIVE-CD ... but in his kernel .config the i915 is correct enabled (so, as soon as he can boot his kernel he will also see i915 when doing a "lspci-k")

Kaidezee,

I have seen also this right now:

CONFIG_FB=y should give you the option CONFIG_FB_EFI ...
See here:
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/User:Pietinger/Experimental/Manual_Configuring_Current_Kernel#Framebuffer_Device_and_Console
... but you have disabled EFI completely ... ?

Yes, that is correct.

I have read through the article and it was very useful, thank you! My configuration finally boots. I can't, however, open my encrypted drive like this. After a while kernel prints something about it scanning for btrfs devices and later throws me into initramfs shell.

Do you need help resolving this? If so, please provide us some information with which we can work. Show the output you get, and describe why you think the current configuration should work. Are you missing the tools to open it? Does the tool not accept the passphrase you expect to use?
