Decisions...decisions

As of now, I am confronted with the decision of either buying an IBM R40 or an Apple iBook (the one that is 14"). Each link corresponds to each laptop:

I have a few questions that need to be answered:

1. Is the IBM R40 well supported by Gentoo Linux? Does Gentoo Linux support the 16MB ATI Mobility RADEON and other hardware it brings?

2. Is the iBook well supported by Gentoo Linux? How will Gentoo Linux differ when using it here and when using it in an x86 laptop?

3. Which one would you choose?
