Different hdd behaviour in 6.12.8

Hi!

Iḿ asking this because i really don´t know how to troubleshoot this, since my move from 5.10.230 -> 6.12.8 i have noticed that my mechanical WD RED hdd behaves differently, because it is a NAS drive it does some weird spin up if it need to write data to the drive. this procedure takes some seconds to perform and is quite noisy, it only needs to do this when writing to the drive, reading from the drive never does this.

Anyway, since 6.12.8 it does this spin up / seek thing when the kernel boots which is strange and it is always reproducible. Before it was quiet and did not do a thing until i decided to write something to the disk.
So troubleshooting this is confusing to me,
is it the sata driver which does something different now? or is it the ext4 driver which has changed and suddenly do some altered fs check upon boot? someone maybe can point me in a direction to look or have experienced this themselves?

Could your hdd be failing and not related to the kernel update?

I don't recall any issues with hdd's but had an anomaly with an SSD though of course behavior is different - the ssd would hang for a minute and then come back... never figured it out except that the ssd had a firmware bug... that I can't get the firmware update for...
