I have been following. DarthJoker's https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1166940-highlight-raspberry+wifi.html trying to get wifi up and running on my PI500 (a PI 5 in a keyboard). However, I can't seem to get it running.

The wlan0 interface claims up. I have installed raspberry firmware

reason=3
means you told me (to drop). This is not PI 500 specific.
It usually means that you have two or more things trying to control the interface at the same time. They all fight an take it in turns to 'win' for a few seconds. That's what we see here.

The fix is the same.
Remove all the things that can control wlan0 from starting automatically.
Prove it by rebooting and verifying that wlan0 does not start.
Choose exactly one service to control wlan0.
Start that service by hand.
Verify that wlan0 works.
Add the service to the default runlevel.
Reboot to test.

Found wpa_supplicant, dhcpcd, and NetworkManager running.
Removed them, rebooted and had no eth0, or wlan0
ReAdded NetworkManager to netmount

udev or some other autoblackmagic renamed eth0 for you.

As you no longer have an eth0, you should not try to configure it.

I don't think names matter as log as they are consistent everywhere.

is traditionally.

and so on.
Just leave it in a mess for now :)
