Second display during console login

Recently bought a new laptop and finally got Gentoo working on it. One problem, every other laptop I have used Gentoo on the second display when it loads the module for the display adapter. With this machine, the second display output is dead.

Is there a way to make it come on like it used to where it mirrors the primary display during console operations?

I use a KVM and the laptop itself is outside of a convenient field of view and it's difficult to see the tiny text on the screen.

Or am I just kind of SOL here?
