I found back some Kodachrome doule 8 movies my dad made end '60's, begin '70's. I can data it because I'm less than a year old on them :) I had them digitalised so I now have some files we can watch.

But my dad wasn't a good picture taker. Some parts are underexposed, other parts are overexposed. So I'd like to see if I can make them a bit more presentable. Like I do with digital photos or scans of negatives in Gimp or Darktable. But video is a closed book to me.

So I'm looking at a simple program to edit video. It is all in mp4 format, no sound. Most likely I'll be doing nothing more than a bit of cut/paste and changing levels to get the exposure a bit more even.

I tried KDEnlive but get things about pip3 missing and reading on that issue looks like a dive into the python rabbit hole and users getting error after error when fixing things which I want to avoid. So any other application that others here have used for such simple video editing?

(I have long ago dabbled with Cinelerra but that was way over my head, just getting it installed was an experience)

Initially i tried OpenShot, which was okay, but its dependency on qtwebengine made it too 'heavy' for my tastes, and in any case, it's since been removed from the main repo: https://public-inbox.gentoo.org/gentoo-dev-announce/d23127bf15f063c7b0264ec88f3c017b13effa80.camel@gentoo.org/ .

So i've been using ffmpeg, media-video/ffmpeg (for basic stuff like resizing and clip extractions), and Shotcut, media-video/shotcut (for less basic stuff). There's also media-video/avidemux, which can be run as a command-line tool or with a GUI (via the `gui` USE flag), but i've not seriously tried to use it.
