Hi, Alisssaaa.
Welcome to Gentoo! The i7 being a modern, 64-bit CPU, you want the Gentoo AMD64 Handbook, so named because AMD actually beat Intel to the punch on a 64-bit version of the x86 architecture.

Alisssaaa,
Intel actually let AMD win. Intel were distracted with the now dead Itanium, which they were pushing for 64 bit.
Unfortunately, it could not execute the existing 32 bit code base without an emulator, which made it very slow, so almost nobody bought it.
It was nicknamed Itanic for a reason :)
AMD brought out the Opteron, which could run all the existing 32 bit bit code and supported 64 bit code too. Hence amd64.
Intel actually licenced the design from AMD for their first amd64 compatible processors.
So much for the history. _________________ Regards,
