Greetings. I encountered a problem with latest versions of linux-firmware. AMF was AMD GPU's hardware acceleration solution. Its bound to AMD VCN engine for work. Using 20241210-r1 version has no problem. VCN firmware is up to date and it works as expected. But any firmware version higher than 20241210-r1 such as 20250109-r1 or 20250211 causes problem. When using latest linux-firmware, VCN firmware downgrades itself to 1.32. The applications which uses AMF gives error and expects 1.33 version. Downgrading linux-firmware 20241210-r1 turns VCN to 1.33 back. What might cause that issue? Is there anything i can do using older version of linux-firmware?
20241210-r1:
Code: | cruslan@desktop ~ $ dmesg | grep firmware
...
[ 11.089081] [drm] Found VCN firmware Version ENC: 1.33 DEC: 4 VEP: 0 Revision: 3
... |
20250109-r1, 20250211 and 99999999:
Code: | cruslan@desktop ~ $ dmesg | grep firmware
...
[ 10.774333] [drm] Found VCN firmware Version ENC: 1.32 DEC: 4 VEP: 0 Revision: 0

In my case, I use linux-firmware 20250211 and VCN version is lower than your case.
Code: | [ 4.164525] [drm] Found VCN firmware Version ENC: 1.22 DEC: 9 VEP: 0 Revision: 12 |

Thats very odd. May you try with available oldest version aka 20241210-r1? If its downgrades it may be problem. I have RDNA 2 GPU, 6700 XT. |

I use amdgpu/vcn_4_0_0.bin, but you should, I think, use amdgpu/navy_flounder_vcn.bin. They both can have different implementation (version). _________________ 7950x3d / x670e MSI Tomagawk / Sapphire RX 7800XT 16Gb / G.Skill 64Gb 5600 / A-Data Legend 960 2Tb (x2), A-Data SX8200PNP 256Gb |
