Hi!

I'm running xfce4 with a SiS620 VGA card.

My 'trouble' is getting 1024X768 resolution. I'm dual-booting and windows has no problem using that resolution.

X Window on the other hand, when I press Ctrl Alt + will first show 640X480 and if I press it again, 800X600, press again and it goes back to 640X480.

I checked the X config file.. my Depth is set to 16 whose modes incl. 1024X768, 800X600 & 640X480. But how do I specifically tell it to try 1024X768?

The real reason I want it is because Thunderbird pretty much takes up the whole screen :D

Thank you for your time :)

~Kristy

make sure your horizontal and vertical sync rates are set correctly in the xf86 config file and then it should work

Okay.. my problem is that the monitor is old (1998) and I haven't got the manual for it so I don't know the horizontal refresh rates.. vertical is 50-60 and Linux says my dpi is 75X76.

Window's says my refresh rate is 72hz but I don't know if that's for horizontal or vertical.. I'm guessing vertical.

I'll experiment and post the results (let's hope my monitor doesn't go up in flames :wink: )

Thanks,
Kristy

Post it here, maybe someone will do the research for you...

It's a LIKOM monitor.. the back says it's Model is L4031NDG manufactured in Dec 1998.

I have been googline for the info but either I'm searching wrong or everyone's upgraded their monitors ;)

Of all days, the manufacturer's tech team is on holiday today but I'll call them up tomm and hope they have the specs.

Thanks,
Kristy

Okay, it's done.

I called up the manufacturer, got the refresh rates and it's working in 1024X768 now.

For those of you who have old Likom monitors, these are the refresh rates I used for my L4031NDG:

resolution :: 1024X768
h: 48.36 v: 60

resolution :: 800X600
h: 37.88 v: 60.3

resolution :: 640X480
h: 31.47 v: 59.9

Thanks everybody!

I was having similar issues earlier today with a Princeton Graphic Systems monitor... after a few minutes of Googling, I found a great page for quick monitor research:

[ MonitorsDB (from Mandrake) ]

(It's part of the X11 install for Mandrake, so TIFWIW)

Pretty good info for the quick XFree configs :)
