In case people here have missed - You can try out newest xfce (4.20) on wayland.

I tried it with wayfire.
The desktop appears fine.But still not there.
Brave woudnt start.Chrome and firefox did.
Then half of icons on the bottom panel disappeared.
The top panel had only the clock.
Not yet there!
But good news overall!

I wonder if Brave needs Xwayland? Did you have it enabled?
