I have followed the MTP guide to allow my Samsung S23 to connect to my laptop with Gentoo & KDE installed.
I have simple-mtpfs installed and the mtp USE flag enabled for kio-extras. KDE correctly recognizes my phone under the disks and devices system tray menu. However, upon clicking "Open in File Manager" it takes me to dolphin and an error message displays: "The file or folder udi=/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.0/usb3/3-3 does not exist." Furthermore, when I click Network -> MTP Devices in dolphin, it says "No MTP-compatible devices found."
I installed gmtp to test and I can get it to work that way, so why doesn't it work through kio-extras? _________________ “I'm smart enough to know that I'm dumb.”

Turns out that Dolphin didn't work well with the MTP protocol as a flatpak package. I don't know if it's with flatpak itself or with the configuration on my system. Switching to the portage package made everything work! _________________ “I'm smart enough to know that I'm dumb.”

... and you didn't think that was worth mentioning in the first place? |

Nyuutrino, welcome to the forums. There is a general expectation that the Gentoo forums are used to seek support for Gentoo packages. If you use Dolphin from a Flatpak, that is not a Gentoo package, so any respondents will start off with an incorrect expectation. As such, if you intend to use programs that are not Gentoo packages, you should mention up front that there are non-Gentoo packages involved, so that respondents can take into account that, as happened here, those non-Gentoo packages are not properly integrated into the system. |
