PostPosted: Mon Mar 24, 2025 10:49 am    Post subject: [SOLVED] segfault while building llvm-core Reply with quote

Greetings! I'm back to Gentoo after a (too) long break. I'm using a musl based stage 3 and I'm trying to install sway. In the process of emerging the package, llvm-core is needed and it always fails with a segmentation fault. Before filing a bug maybe one of the more experienced people here can look at the setup and tell me if I'm the problem or not. :) I might have missed something obvious but I'm at a loss right now.

Code:
magnus-en970 /home/bastien # emerge --info '=llvm-core/llvm-19.1.7::gentoo'
Portage 3.0.67 (python 3.12.9-final-0, default/linux/amd64/23.0/musl, gcc-14, musl-1.2.5-r3, 6.12.16-gentoo-dist x86_64)

Welcome back!

There is a similar bug confirmed in bug tracker...
Code:
/var/tmp/portage/llvm-core/llvm-19.1.7/work/llvm/include/llvm/ADT/SmallVector.h:499:9: internal compiler error: Segmentation fault

... but this message usually is related to hardware problem, check your dmesg.

Thanks for your input. dmesg only shows iwlwifi warnings and a few perf lines, not sure if it can be related. Would it be worth to try an earlier version? And adjust the version of sway if it's succesful?

EDIT: it seems that I needed to dig deeper in the dmesg. intel-microcode was needed and for now it seems to build. I'll edit the topic once it's properly emerged. Thanks for the tip!
