gdm screws kde?

When I start my kde without gdm, just from a plain tty, I get a nice coloured Konsole (with username prompt)
When I start kde from gdm, I get no special Konsole at all. What should I change? Konsole doesn't load my .bash_profile I guess, how do I force it when using gdm?

I thought you had to use .bashrc to set your bash prompt to survive reboot/re-login? Otherwise it might be your USE flags in make.conf (outside guess). Or I don't understand the question and I'll let someone else jump in now.

.bashrc loads .bash_profile so that's not the problem...

Try adding "source /etc/profile" to the end of your .bashrc

Woops, made a mistake: the term stuff is in .bashrc. But what's the difference then?
