Hello all,
I just finished writing a first draft of an installation HOWTO on my Inspiron 8500 laptop... check it out! Please be gentle (with both my server and your criticisms)! Thanks!

Chris

I've been looking around for a solution to the cd-burner not being recognised by k3b -- it looks like a mm-sources problem

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=117817&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=k3b+2+6

I've got an 8500 as well, and I'm hoping that love-sources will fix the problem (unless someone can suggest another 2.6 kernel to try).

EDIT: 2.6.0-mm1 patch is out!

I'm concerned about my cpu temperature when using the 2.6 kenrel. The machine idles at 55-60C, with the 2.4 kernel, it's around 45-50C.

I have the 8500 as well. I have a few questions.
I am using the gentoo-dev-sources and I cant get my backlight to turn off if I have acpi enabled. I was wondering i you had this problem.

sorry... i actually don't really bother with acpi/power management, in general, because the laptop is almost always tethered to my desk (with outlet)... from what i've read, acpi is difficult to get going, and incomplete when "gotten" ...
