|
|
The official 2.6.0-love1 sources are now ready for download.
Included:
2.6.0-mm1: in it's entirety
2.6.0-radeon-igp patch: igp fix for radeon
bootsplash-3.1.3-2.6.0: latest bootsplash
nvidia-agp fix
orinoco/hermes patches
udf packet writing
veas_fb hack
Con's VM swappiness
reiser4 (need reiser4 tools and libaal)
Yet To Do:
Runtime Selectable Block Scheduler
Supermount-ng
Nick's scheduler (w27)
The ebuild can be found here:
http://www.public.iastate.edu/~jpcox/linux/patches/2.6/2.6.0/2.6.0-love0/love-sources-2.6.0.ebuild
Happy Compiling!
EDIT:
Love2 is now available. Ebuild and patches found at the usual place
http://www.public.iastate.edu/~jpcox/linux/patches/2.6/2.6.0/2.6.0-love2
I have added the core changes for reiser4, it is now visible under filesystems. I have also added the latest alsa patches. This is just a minor release to tie up loose ends form the previous release. Expect a major release in early January.
EDIT (again): I knew I took out the core patches for reiser4 for a reason. It bombs out at init_task. I'll keep plugging away at it, but I'm backing out the reiser patch now. The love2 ebuild will just have the alsa stuff for now. _________________ Rationality is the recognition of the fact that nothing can alter the truth and nothing can take precedence over that act of perceiving it.

awesome, we still need some patches for: emu10k1
as far as I can see at least - which was mentioned in the previous thread - needed for fixing surround sound center.
otherwise it looks good. |

wow, 1.2 megs a big one . I think I am going to take a stab at getting supermount to compile in properly. I know it merges perfectly with the non-mm sources one, and I had a failed attempt at getting it to patch (then compile) into the mm-sources in the test releases. This time I have a bit more time and am not paranoid about exams _________________ Really, I'm not out to destroy Microsoft. That will just be a completely unintentional side effect.

hey cool ! i compiled it with genkernel and it worked absolutely cool, no errors that some guys mentioned earlier ! ROCKON !
also, i was wondering that as i shifted from gentoo-dev-sources-test11-r2 to love-sources-2.6.0 am i supposed to notice any differences ? like wasnt the new io scheduler of mm suppose to make any difference ?
I ask cause i cant see any noticable difference anyways its just been 10 mins since i've been using love-sources
Sure thing, i just might get in love with the love-sources !! yeehaa
also, i had questions regarding :-
veas_fb hack :-
what is it and what do i do to activate it ? i mean how do i take advantage of it ?
Con's VM swappiness :-
Ok as usual, whats this now, and how's it gonna help me ?
reiser4 (need reiser4 tools and libaal):-
Hmm, so do we finally have the reiserfs4 support ? i ask cuz i culdnt see anything mentioning of the reiserfs4 in the make menuconfig, it was just the plain old reiserfs support
And yo i second love-childs mentioning of the patch regarding emu10k1, thats the biggest need of the hour, as most of the users who can play sound on their pc have a soundcard based on emu10k1
Bye,

Jassi: Well, try switching to cfq and see if you notice better desktop performance.
Also, the emu10k1 patch is really small and affects just one file, even if you don't know how to use patch you could open it up in a text editor and probably do it yourself quite easily. _________________ Think about your breathing.

ummm... so exaclty how does this work? What commands do i use to download and patch?
2 days with gentoo... (love at first emerge btw... ) though a couple of years with linux...
assuming i should use the ebuild command somehow... but only getting errors... will it download the patched sources for me?
Also are there any detailed explanations on what the patches do?
Sorry for being a n00b again... although i was playing CS1.6 on my gentoo today...
Thanks guys and keep up the good work... |

Hiya jassi,
to change to the cfq scheduler, since the runtime selectable io scheduler is off in this release, you'll have to add elevator=cfq to your kernel options in lilo/grub and reboot |

Very bad guys ! the love-sources dont like me i guess....
I however got the initial lovesource0 to get installed but i cant get the rc1 to get install !
I get the following error :-
Quote: |
bash-2.05b# emerge /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/love-sources/love-sources-2.6.0-rc1.ebuild
Calculating dependencies \Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 2181, in ?
retval,favorites=mydepgraph.select_files(myfiles)
File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 789, in select_files
if not self.create(["ebuild",portage.root,mykey],None,"--onlydeps" not in myopts):
File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 740, in create
edepend[x]=string.join(portage.portdb.aux_get(mykey,[x]), " ")
File "/usr/lib/portage/pym/portage.py", line 3759, in aux_get
myebuild,in_overlay=self.findname2(mycpv)
ValueError: need more than 0 values to unpack |
This time i've even give the path right ! the only thing that could be possible is that i manually unmerge the previous version and try this new one out !
Hey btw, whats the changes in rc1, how did it come out soo soon ?
Bye,

I think steel might be working on this ebuild... since he has yet to post the new link, I would imagine he's trying to revise the previous ebuild. |

I can't seem to emerge it. I cannot digest it, and I'm getting an error when I emerge it. It looks like this:
Code: | invalid cat-pkg-v: sys-kernel/love-sources-2.6.0-rc1 |
Yeah, I put it in /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/love-sources, don't worry. _________________ old outdated sig |

Ok i have a very strong feeling about this ! that the previous ebuild posted by steel was indee the same as posted by shadownode ! its not ending with rc1 !!
So i guess Stu L Tissimus you better rename the ebuild to remove the rc1 from the name and try re-emerging it !
Hope it helps !
Bye.

Just to point something out ... you may have forgotten ALSA 1.0 patches (they are not listed in the first post).... is this a mistake in the post, or temp left out of love-sources, or won't be in love-sources?
Thanks
BTW - great job on the release, and thanks a lot =) Will be installing this later tonight. |

it seems like he named the patch -rc1.ebuild by mistake. it needs to be named -r1.ebuid to work.
typos are bad [img:bd3ebeef57]http://www.tpwch.com/smilies/eek13.gif[/img:bd3ebeef57]
I'm compiling it now, good work steel300 [img:bd3ebeef57]http://www.tpwch.com/smilies/dbl_thumbs_up.gif[/img:bd3ebeef57] |

I renamed it to -r1.ebuild, but now I'm getting 404 errors.
EDIT: It seems portage is looking for it in the 2.6.0-love1 directory which doesn't exist on the server (the file is actually in the 2.6.0-love0 directory)... I don't understand why it's not working for me.
My portage overlay variable is set in make.conf, and I downloaded the ebuild to /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/love-sources/ |

looks like you'll have to manually grab the patch and stick it in /usr/portage/distfiles.
if the ebuild is named love-sources-2.6.0-r1 then it looks for the remote directory 2.6.0-love1/2.6.0-love1.patch.bz2 and if it doesn't have the r1 then it looks for love0. but it's really 2.6.0-love0/2.6.0-love1.patch.bz2.
