I like to Use WindowMaker as my windows manager for my current Distro of Mandrake. I'm wanting to know if I can install WindowMaker and then set it to load up on Boot. I would prefer that instead of starting at the command prompt. |

Windowmaker can be installed without any problem (emerge windowmaker), but I'm not sure what you mean by "load at boot". I assume that you want a graphical login manager (xdm, gdm or kdm) to come up after boot, and that you want Windowmaker to start after you log in.
It's rather simple. If you want, say, the gdm login manager, the easiest way is to emerge gnome and set the DISPLAYMANAGER variable to "gdm" in /etc/rc.conf. Just open /etc/rc.conf with your editor of choice and make sure the line
Code: |
DISPLAYMANAGER="gdm"
|
is present. Then do
Code: |
rc-update add xdm default
|
and gdm will come up after each boot. Now you can choose windowmaker from the gdm menu before logging in. Does this answer your questions? |

Yes, in part. I'm still kind of New with Linux and I've been using it on and Off for over 4 years, kept having to go back to windows.
I've been using Mandrake Linux and I was just wondering if there was a way to get Gentoo to login my user account at boot without prompting me. |
