|
|
I have a Thinkpad T20 and just got my spiffy new 2.6.0 stable going. I don't have a floppy in any modules.autoload file but for some reason the kernel likes to load it up, even though it's not in use by anything.
Code: |
~/ lsmod
Module Size Used by
floppy 56148 0
|
I'd like to have it not load up because of the size, I guess, and it might make my boot time go .01 seconds slower. The last 3 lines of my dmesg follow
Code: |
inserting floppy driver for 2.6.0
Floppy drive(s): fd0 is 1.44M
FDC 0 is a National Semiconductor PC87306
|
Is there a kernel boot command for not loading the floppy? I looked around a little and read Documentation/floppy.txt but there was only floppy=thinkpad (which i have tried set and unset)
Thanks, perhaps somebody knows why this is hapenning and how I can prevent it.
Merry Christmas. |

Although you have no floppy drive, your board seems to have a floppy controller, namely

which is autodetected at start. The easiest way to get rid of your floppy module therefore would be to unselect floppy support in your kernel config (Device Drivers->ATA/ATAPI/[...]->'IDE/ATAPI Floppy support').
Merry christmas to all forum members! |

I forgot to mention that I have one of those laptops where one can switch out the cdrom bay for the floppy. I know I can just get rid of the module, but I'd like to have it there and not autoload |
