|
|
I had a mandrake/windows XP dualboot system that I had working with grub.
Last night I installed gentoo (overwriting an existing mandrake install). I followed the install instructions for grub and when I rebooted my system it hangs with the word GRUB on the screen (following the bios informational screen and the check for bootable CD). The only option is a reboot at this point (into a live CD )
my partition table is as follows:
hda1 - NTFS XP installation
hda2 - NTFS Data drive
hda3 - Linux boot
hda7 - Linux root
hda8 - Linux swap
I did the following commands during the install (after starting grub)
root (hd0,0)
setup (hd0,6)
then created the grub.conf (I am at work right now so do not have the conf file handy)
does anyone have any ideas on:
1) how to get grub to at least allow commandline entry to get into windows and gentoo.
2) what happened |

Steve Phariss,
is wrong if you intended to put grub on /dev/hda3.
setup (hd0,2) would be better.

#grub setup
root (hd0,0) (Your boot partition)
setup (hd0,2)
that should make it work
grub setup/count of ur partition starts from 0 not 1 so when u look @ ur boot partition is 0 not 1 coz grub starts @ 0. hope this clear it out for yah _________________ Live And Learn. |
