Ftp connection problems -- works only some of the time

I'm having problems with the ftp server I set up...only certain clients can connect to it. Command line ftp and ws_ftp work fine, but integrated clients in konqueror, firebird, and IE never connect. They just continue to load for eternity. Does anybody know why this is happening?

Did you check you FW settings? maybe the clients are able to connect only in passive mode, IIRC, you can set konqueror to act in passive mode on ftp

I'll be glad to try it, but I can't find the settings in konq or firebird.
