I am having a similar problem to this bug:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=33190
except I get it with emerge kde a suggestion was disabling Hardened, what is Hardened and how do I disable it? Thanks a lot and I am loving Gentoo!

well I tried emerge kde again now I get a different problem

alsa failed
parallel make failed.

Well, I know your all probably busy with Christmas stuff and all so no rush, and thanks for all the previous help you all have given me. have a good Christmas!

Edit* I tried a third time and got the same error as the first time, I might wind up using GNOME

I suppose that Hardened is "hardened gentoo" - some security testing kernel (something, can't remember where I read about it).

can you provide us with some more info?
I don't know if you are trying to compile qt-3.2 (as the bug-article implied) or 3.1.4 or 1.0...

by judging your short posting, I assume that your system is very fresh - have you tried 3.1.4 before trying 3.2?

so, thanks, but what should I type to be able to get 3.1.4 going instead of 3.2? Sorry, really busy you know? thanks yet again!
edit* thank God for this link:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook.xml?part=2&chap=2

*edit2
I have tried emerge "=kde3.1.4" and it is trying to compile qt-3.2.3 any ideas? should I do emerge "=qt-3.1.4" then emerge "=kde3.1.4" ? Sorry I am being so annoying and its nice to see so many people willing to help. I never had this much help with Mandrake...

*edit3
Sorry, I am still somewhat new, I tried installing an older version of qt (3.2.2r1) and it also failed, anyone have any ideas? I personally preffer KDE over GNOME but I think I am going to have to get GNOME because I cannot get KDE working, if you have any advice that would be great, well hope your all having a good Christmas Eve. buh-bye. :D

Ok, tried GNOME and yet another problem, similar to the one I got in KDE. This time app-text/opensp-1.5-r1 failed, should I report a bug you think? I would REALLY love to get some desktop environment working, please help me out!

*edit
Well I found a bug filed for this one too!
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31325
I guess I have some pretty bad luck, well, I really don't want to use windowmaker, I REALLY want to get KDE working, I wish I knew how to program so I could look at the source and try to figure out what the heck is wrong. 26 Mins. until Christmas WEE!
