I have installed gentoo with ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86".
everthing wents fine, no problems. Now I have noticed, that I have no sound in gnome. I can start xmms, xine and other players, every player operates normal. But I get no sound for events. I looked for a esd process ... no process there. I tried to start it manually and I got: segmentation fault. Afterwards I emerged the oldest version of esound that I found... same result. I tried to change the CFLAGS to "march=pentium3" ... same result. Maybe someone can help me.
Hardware: IBM Thinkpad T30, i8x0 soundcard, P4 2GHz, 640MB RAM

strangely, esd refuses to work along with alsa... So, just emerge it without alsa support, and everything will work. USE=-alsa emerge esound
Of course, it sucks to think that it will be using alsa-oss emulation to output, but hey, it works :) |
