Everyone should give it a try. It takes some time to get into it but it's really worth it! Luckily I just bought it online because of boredom and fell in love right away. |

When I try to run the demo, it tells me: "error checking for updates: could not contact server." It doesn't appear to even try to connect to a server. Is there some configuration that I missed when installing? |

Gentoo bug. Edit your XF86Config file and change:
Option "omit xfree86-dga" # don't initialise the DGA extension
To:
Option "xfree86-dga" # initialize the DGA extension |

Are you in the games group? Also, check your chown settings for the Savage directory. |

The permissions are all correct. I tried it as root, just for kicks, and got the same error.
I suppose I'll just have to wait to get my copy of the full version that is in the mail. |

Nevermind, I got it running by emerging libpng-1.0.15-r1 alongside libpng-1.2.5-r4.
Aside from that, the game seems to run well....but it is the most boring and pointless game I have played in a while. Maybe it's just the type of gameplay that I don't like. I'm used to FPS games like RTCW and SOF.
I'm glad some people like it though, and I'm glad that it was ported to Linux with Linux support clearly labeled on the packaging, and the Linux demo is a huge bonus too. I might even purchase this game just to support S2 Games. |

well all is good except a few issues
the game runs at 60hz unless I run at 1600x1200
then its just rather laggy
and how to increase the mouse sensitivity when in command mode?
mmealman: that helped with the spinning |

All I get is a grey screen with black text. The mouse is a grey box which I have to find the quit button with. WHen I exit it just hangs on me. Must be my radeon 7500 or something. All my other OpenGL stuff works fine. |

I disabled texture compression in my .savage/startup.cfgset vid_compressTextures 0 and it would start with the appropriate graphics. Now I get what I think is the spawn spin of death. That and the obligatory radeon bound texture blah blah blah...
