I`m a Mandrake 9.2 user...640 MB Ram, athlon thunderbird 750 MHz socket A, dual boot (linux and windows XP)+ vmware with windows 98SE. Linux partitioned disk:
3,5 GB / ext3
350 MB /home ext3
133 MB swap
I have lots of packages installed included:
vmware, openoffcie, koffice, wine, qt3 dev.,gnome, kde, all other windows environments, all internet software for workstation, games, all multimedia software (xine, mplayer, realmedia, cinelerra, etc), all graffic software (gimp, ee, xane. etc), TV software, etc
Total used space: 2,8 GB
Can I install Gentoo Linux with all this software?
Source packages are deleted after install?
I saw SSE-instruction(¿?) flag in gcc tbird option (PTA_SSEPREFETCH) and in one article of tom's hardware web too appears that thunderbird accept SSE instructions. CPUID programs and AMD web don't say that. What happens??
Finally, my HP 930C inkjet printer don't print large papers, I probed several combinatios included pcl3 HP600 driver, but gimp don't want print large papers (too named banners or continuous paper). Any solution?
Thanks. |

* hm, try the hpijs-package. these are the linux-drivers developed by hp on opensource-standard. for my hp deskjet 990cxi it works perfectly.
* yes, you can install all these packages under gentoo
* sse, is a instructionset in your athlon, which calculates several mathematical operations in floating point format, they are much more faster then calculating it per your co-prozessor. so application using floating point numbers should be faster. but this option could also break some several applications
hope that helps a little bit. |

Can I install all of them? ...when begins the installation after choose all of them, the sources are deleted automatically (one download, one install, one compiled, one deleted..then the next)???
The gcc compiler has the PTA_PREFETCH_SSE flag actived when -march=athlon-tbird option (athlon thunderbird) is in the command line gcc options (various messages say that in various forums). What's the proposal of that PTA_PREFETCH_SSE flag? AMD Athlon don't support SSE nor SSE2 instructionset.
I use HP driver, it works fine, but don't supports continuos paper so I need to use windows XP. pcl3 proyect supports continuous paper but only for a few HP printers. What software use you for print large papers under linux?
Thanks. |

Well, I prefer say: AMD Athlon Thunderbird don't support SSE nor SSE2 instructionset. AMD Athlon XP support SSE. |
