I am trying to install Gentoo 1.2 (gcc 2.95) on a dual athlon 2100+.
I can boot the CD, create and mount the filesystems, and untar the stage-1 tarball just fine. Unfortunately, two things happen which make installation impossible.
First, it fails to correctly setup a TERMinal, so to work around this I 'export TERM=linux' I've never had to do that before, in all the times I've installed gentoo (something like 20 machines).
Second, during the bootstrap phase both emerges fail. 'emerge rsync' works, but the actual emerge portage and emerge base-layout both fail miserably:
Code: |
Calculating dependencies ....done!
>>> emerge sys-apps/portage-2.0.27 to /
!!! emerge aborting on /usr/portage/sys-apps/portage/portage-2.0.27.ebuild .
Calculating dependencies ....done!
>>> emerge sys-apps/base-layout-1.7.9-r1 to /
!!! emerge aborting on /usr/portage/sys-apps/base-layout/base-layout-1.7.9-r1.ebuild .

This is really bizarr ... I've never run into anything like this before.
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
Jean. |

That's really weird.
Nothing helpful in the logs? (Not that Portage does logs...) _________________ I don't believe in witty sigs. |

I just came across the same problem. Strange...
BTW, where are the logs? /var/log was empty... |
