I'm gonna buy a notebook for this christmas, I'm hesitating between Sager 5680-V and Dell 5150. The Christmas offer of Dell is very attractive ( They offer 256Mb of Ram and Logitech Photo camera/Printer/or a second battery ), The offer expires tomorrow, but meanwhile I found out that Sager exist, it is cheaper with same characteristics or better. Sager has also a linux forum. The question is, I need some recommandations and advices to take my decision by tomorrow night. Also, does Sager have a Seller-representative in Europe ( I reside in Madrid - Spain )? I found this link www.sager-europe.com but it doesn't work
Waiting for feedback

Dell has a forum as well. I used to post on it. I had nearly 10,000 posts to my name. A lot of video cards in Dells are interchangable, and in many cases you can order them from the spare parts line. So you aren't always limited to what it came with. Check their forums for more info. _________________ Inspiron 4100 & Sun UltraAXe

Here's my 2 cents...
If you order it from Dell, (IE You've placed and order and haven't received it yet), DON'T hold your breath. I ordered one three weeks ago and cancelled the order today after they delayed it for the second time to after january 9th. The laptop I expected in 5-10 days has waited too long...
Instead I'm going to order one of the Sager notebooks from one of their resellers and make sure not to choose an OS. |

Hey, I think it might help if I give my 2 cents, since I've been running gentoo on my sager 5670 since shortly after I got it (in April I think). When it comes to forums, sagerforums.com (I think that's the forum set you were talking about), there is a lot of helpful advice, and people (to answer any new questions), so that's def. a plus.
Here are the pros and cons of the 5670. I know that they altered some things in the 5680 (motherboard rev. different heat sink, newer graphics card), but they are still very similar (they'd have to be if you can send in the 56XX to have it upgraded to 5680 status )
Pros
-It's fast
-Very nice screen (I have the 1600x1200 UXGA wide angle(I think it's UXGA) screen)
-Cheaper
-More freedom to alter/change the laptop (you're allowed to take it apart without voiding anything)
-Gentoo installs very easily (I've done it at least 10 times now)
Cons
-It gets hot, and that means that while compiling gentoo it will throttle down and possibly stay at the slower 50% throttled speed during the entire installation process depending on where it is. (For me it would usually throttle down (which happens at 75 C) cool down to 65 C, resume full speed and the continue this process. Another note, make sure that the vents are not covered by setting the laptop on carpet or your bed while doing any serious type of cpu work because it will over heat and then shut itself off (learned this the hard way several times)
-If you have to carry it with you, it might get heavy. It doesn't bother me at all, but it may bother others. I use a backpack, so I really don't feel it at all
-Just like every other laptop I've heard, the speakers aren't great. They are terrible, but I usually stick with headphones when I have the chance.
Hope this helps
[edit]I meant to put this in but forgot. I got my sager from pctorque.com. The main reason was because it was rec. by a friend, but from what I've read there are several nice places to order from. Anyways, if you can put up with its flaws, then you will love this laptop. _________________ Laptop:Sager 5670
