I was wondering if anyone knows anything about gentoo's legal status. I know there is Robbins Gentoo company, but I was wondering, because I have been kind of playing with a more automated install script that allows me to install precompiled or, source packages and does most of the system configuration (w/options) for me.

I have been using some of the anaconda scripts for configuration and I am not sure whether or not it would be possible to use, any of the live-cd configuration, stuff. (notice the highly technical nature of my correspondance). 8)

Also one of the reasons that I am using Gentoo is that it follows the FHS (filesystem hirarchy standard), and I was wondering if anyone knows how closely it follows LSB, or any of the other known linux standards for the OS.

note: not that I don't love Gentoo just the way it is, it's just that sometimes it takes too damn long. (note too the moderator, my mother would say "damn" especially if she could understand linux a little better)

Yep, portage is GPL(2).
In packages.gentoo.org you can look up the license for every package.

on an offtopic note - im pretty sure the admins dont mind the odd damn and stuff like that but if you use some words (we all know them so i'm not gonna say them here) you might find your post edited or removed.

also no personal attacks

just common courtesy most of the time.
