hi, is there a tool or a possibility to recover a destroyed ntfs partition?

i'm not sure what exactly happened but my old windows partition doesn't work anymore. i don't need windows but there is some data i need to recover.

this is the hd with the ntfs partition
Code:
Disk /dev/hdc: 40.0 GB, 40020664832 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 4865 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

   Device Boot    Start       End    Blocks   Id  System
/dev/hdc1   *         1      2823  22675716    7  HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hdc2          2824      4865  16402365    c  Win95 FAT32 (LBA)

a normal mount does not work:
Code:
modprobe ntfs
mount -t ntfs /dev/hdc1 /mnt/windows/
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hdc1,
       or too many mounted file systems

i tried the windows tool erd commander but it can't find the partition (hdc1) either :-(

fixdisktable reports a Segmentation fault:
Code:
fixdisktable-0.3 /dev/hdc1
cylinders=4865, heads=255, sectors=63
FAT       partition at offset    483080704, length=(9.988 MB) 10472960
   Sectors:    start=    943517, end=    963971, length=     20455
   Hd,Sec,Cyl: start(186,30,58) end(1,9,60)
FAT       partition at offset   1028645376, length=(31.838 MB) 33384960
   Sectors:    start=   2009073, end=   2074277, length=     65205
   Hd,Sec,Cyl: start(15,4,125) end(30,3,129)
Segmentation fault

is there a possibiliity to recover the data?

I once totally nuked my ntfs partition, no idead how i did this, but i was able to recover about 80% with the Restorer 2000 Professional (http://www.bitmart.net/buy.shtml). You have to pay for the full version to actually recover anything but you can see what is still in a shape to be recovered with the demo.

I have no idea, wether this program works with wine, if it should not work, maybe you have another win installation to run it from.

good luck
