Well, yes, you can emerge applications while doing other things

I don't use kde, but I think you need Konsole? anyway you need a console with super user access.

Then you emerge the application from that terminal.

Re, webserver, I think Apache is what you need, but not really sure what you are asking there .... do you really want the webserver on your desktop machine?

Yes, the console tool in KDE is called konsole. Just hit ALT+F2. This will pop up the "run command" box and type konsole in there. Then you have a terminal with all features the normal bash shell offers. There you can emerge anything you like. The konsole window can also be minimzed to the taskbar or the window can be shaded (i.e. rolled up so that only the window titlebar is visible). To do this, just doubleclick on the titlebar (this is the KDE default behavior of all windows unless you change it). So it's easily possible to do other things while mozilla compiles :-)

Multiple (Virtual) Desktops are also available in KDE (up to 16 I think, but I only use 4). These desktops can be accessed either using the kpager which is integrated into the bottom bar of the KDE or you can hit CTRL+F1 to access desktop 1, CTRL+F2 for desktop 2 and so on..

Got Mozilla and apache and php and perl installed so I can run a web server on this box. Does anyone no why when I loaded php it said that it was not for webserver but a CLi build? I also would like to know how to use KDE to find files like readmes any help there would be great, ie like windows you would go to the windows explorer and find folders and open and see readmes and then open them to read up on something you just downloaded. I am tring to find the readmes on the apache and php and perl I just downloaded.

Thanx PT :)

You have to emerge mod_php to use PHP with Apache.

Most README's will be in /usr/share/doc. They will probably be compressed though, so gunzip <file>.

finding files with KDE is quite easy: just click on the K-Menu and then on "Find Files".
