A long time ago, I used something called monharc, which takes emails, typically from a mailing list, and creates a web archive.
I need to do this again, and wondered (a) what's in portage and (b) what's the best app for this kind of task these days?
Any recommendations?

The Gmane software is available for free download.
I don't think there is any ebuild available, though. You may request an ebuild on the gentoo bugzilla site, but these guys have a lot to do, so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting. You could, of course, contribute by providing the ebuild yourself.
FYI:
All(?) gentoo related mailing lists (and many more) are stored on the Gmane site and also mirrored on UseNet. Search for your favorite mailing list in their complete list of lists.

I discovered that MHonArc is in portage (if you spell it properly), and have had a little trial with success.
I'm building an archive for local searching, etc. I've been spidering the sourceforge.net archive of the list I'm interested in, but I think they're using some throttling software as my archive slows to a trickle after a few hours. This way I can build up my own archive which I can grep as I please, and browse online with an archive. I'm still interested in something better than MHonArc, so any other suggestions would be gratefully received. _________________ .sig: access denied |
