Because I don't have KDE installed. 0.5 seems to have a hard dependency on KDE. This is stupid because it's only needed for the configuration program. I'm not bothered anymore because I'm using gtk-engines-geramik instead. It doesn't use Qt's theme but it does use its colour scheme. It also works on GTK1, which is a major plus for me.

I haven't tried it to check the dependency, but the 0.5 changelog says:

Remove dependency on KDE - this improves app startup speeds

I use GNOME 2.8 with a few KDE apps, so I'm trying out this gtk-qt-engine and setting my theme through kcontrol.

It appears that the engine is taking its theme from the qtconfig settings, not the KDE ones. That's fine, but my qtconfig settings for Plastik don't match the default KDE ones. The color scheme is all wrong.

Does anyone know how to fix this, besides going in and trying to manually match each color from qtconfig to the KDE colors?

I'm using the 0.6 version.
Fonts and menus work well with everything I tried, firefox, thunderbird, gaim (I switched from 5 years using gnome to kde 2 weeks ago ;)), but there's a big problem, sometimes, with no warning, all gtk apps crash at the same moment. They segfault, and I know it's related to gtk-qt-engine.

It's bug in the gtk-qt-engine bugtracker, and it's supposed to be fixed in the cvs and will be fixed in the next release (february he said).
I checkouted the cvs, but I don't know if it's me that did not use cvs for too long, but I just can't get it to compile.
no autogen, autoconf gives error and generate a non-working configure, I just don't know.

Is there someone that can give me an hint? :)

Thanks!

Try to change the versions of autoconf and automake:
Code:

export WANT_AUTOCONF=2.5
export WANT_AUTOMAKE=1.9
