|
|
I am trying to connect my Rio Karma to my computer with a crossover cable. From what I've heard, I just need to connect, and set both to the same subnet. So I set the karma to 192.168.1.2 and my computer to 192.168.1.1. But the problem is that eth0 won't start when I type
$/etc/init.d/net.eth0 start
because it can't get an IP address. When I edit /etc/conf.d/net and change iface_eth0 to statically set the IP like in the installation doc, I get this error:
Code: | SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
eth0: unknown interface: No such device
SIOCSIFBRDADDR: No such device
eth0: unknown interface: No such device
SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device
*failed to bring eth0 up

Is this maybe because my card is no longer recognized with the 2.6 kernel? I have a tulip, and in the old 2.4 kernel I just said Y or M to tulip support, but now tulip support is a menu with several options.

the rio karma is a 20 gb digital audio player (like the ipod, but better). It also supports ogg vorbis which is nice.
I got it working, I just picked a tulip card and enabled it, recompiled the kernel, rebooted, and now it works with the static ip settings in /etc/conf.d/net |
