Is it possible to recover a file from a reformatted reiser filesystem? I had a large (1.5GB) gzipped tar file amongst others on there. It contains a backup of my /usr/local and some other stuff but is not of critical importance.
I was installing gentoo and reformated that partiton (/dev/hde12) by mistake. I have mounted it once from the live cd but have not written any data to it. Is there any possibility I can recover the tarball?
I'm not optimistic but maybe someone can help.

I took a look at the raw partition and could see some of the text files ok, but it seems pretty hopeless trying to recover the big gzipped file as its probably fragmented anyway. Though I did have quite alot of free space on that partition. Any way, I'm not going to lose sleep over it and will put it down to experience. That's what you get when you start formatting partitions first thing in the morning without first kick starting your brain with tea/coffee and a fag! |
