i've gotta security question, in order to start gdm/kdm, i have to be root, and once gdm is loaded, all i have to do is press alt+ctrl+f1 and i'm back into the root console. how can i prevent this?
i know i could mess with my inittab and make runlevel 5 my default, but i wanna know how to secure my box when runlevel 3 is my default _________________ you can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friends nose |

hmm, I haven't tried it, but maybe something like this works:
Code: | /etc/init.d/xdm start && exit |
Another possiblity might be to just start gdm, then switch back to the console and manually logout. |

If your windowmanager has a start(something) executable then you can start it as user.
Like startxfce4 or startkde etc... _________________ ... and we will show Microsoft, that they cannot take whatever they want. And that Free Software is our software! |

I use "exec /etc/init.d/xdm start" - it's just a pretty way of doing the same thing as mondauge. |
