Hi, about every third time i reboot my machine (that is about every third day) I get a message about CRC error on kernel image load. I've installed S.M.A.R.T monitoring, and I ran two tests smartctl -t long /dev/hda both which reported no errors. I am wondering if such inconsisten errors could be anything but a failing harddrive, since I dont want to replace my harddrive and reinstall unless its nessecary.

Ok now i got another harddisk related problem as well. It seems sometimes the harddisk cannot be accessed causing minor freezes in apps that want to write something and the following dmesg output. Should I rush down and have my hd exchanged?

hda: dma_intr: status=0xa8 { Busy }

hda: DMA disabled
hdb: DMA disabled
ide0: reset: master: error (0x00?)
hda: set_multmode: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: set_multmode: error=0x00 { }
hda: lost interrupt
hda: task_out_intr: status=0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest }

hda: lost interrupt
hda: task_out_intr: status=0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest }

hda: lost interrupt
hda: task_out_intr: status=0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest }

Note: I have also set Use multi-mode by default as * in my current kernel.

the only drives that i have seen this error on before is related to an RAID connection. Do you have RAID installed ?

The disk in question, /dev/hda is a regular IDE disk. I do have an onboard Serial ATA controller to which a single SATA disk is connected, but I dont use this disk under linux, neither have I seen any error messages relating to it (/dev/sda).
