So I don't have access to the /usr/games. I remember reading somewhere that I have to belong to the games group.

How do I do that?

Either edit /etc/groups and add the user there, or

man usermod.

I've noticed something weird with groups also that can't seem to explain.
My /usr/bin/cdrecord got changed to 'xcdwrite' , probably when trying xcdroast.

Anyway, started up gcombust and didn't have access anymore. Just went ahead and added myself to xcdwrite. Couldn't access it still. This is after: relogin, login as someone else and back as me, reboot. Still no go.

Check with groups, no 'xcdwrite' .
Check with groups decibels. It is there
Su to root: groups decibels. Same.
Shows I am in that group, but won't let me use it and doesn't show it when type groups as user, just when I specify my name as the user.

Also have a 'cdrecording' group that cannot access and am in it. Had to change cdrecord back to 'cdrw' group to make it work for me.

I have noticed this behavior with portage group also. /etc/group shows I have access to these groups, but they don't show up when I do it as user, without specifying name. Most seem to work though, except for cdrecording and xcdwrite. These are groups that don't show up unless specify user:

Code:
qmail postfix postdrop portage slocate cdrecording speech xcdwrite

I can use slocate as user, qmail works. I can search portage, but complains I am not in the group. Thought it might be shadow passwds, but cdrecording shows in /etc/passwd that it isn't shadowed and xcdwrite is.

Still looking for an explaination. Back to the forum.
