| I had an error during emerge system (apparantly wasn't major, since everything else finished ok), if I do emerge system...is it going to try to fix that error or start over? |

Any packages which were successfully installed by the previous emerge will not be recompiled or reinstalled. However, any compiling which was only partially completed would be redone. emerge -p system will tell you what packages still need to be emerged.
