|
|
hi all, i've got this little problem when i boot.
insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.23-ck1/kernel/drivers/scisi/aic7xxx/aic79xx.o:
insmod /lib/modules/2.4-ck1/kernel/drivers/aic7xxx/aic79xx.o failed.
i have an adaptec aic7xxx scsi controller. everything appears to be fine when i login, but i'd rather be able to not receive that error anymore.
not sure what other info you really need. thanks in advance |

what kernel version do you have? the insmod tries in two different kernel directories... this shouldn't happen normaly. |

Do you have the aic7xxx support compiled directly into the kernel? If so you may have an extra entry in your modules.autoload which isn't needed so you can delete it. _________________ Kent

I've been working on setting up a rather old Motherboard recently with this scsi adaptor onboard, so I don't know if this will help you or not, but if it does, cool:
I was installing on a Asus P2B-DS motherboard (Twin Pentium IIs and onboard AIC78xx SCSI. The problem I would have at first is that the Gentoo LiveCD tries to load aic7xxx, and although this appears to kind-of work, it will hang at different stages of the install process and is generally completely unstable with the setup I had above. The following steps rectified it, and it has been stable since through the entire install (its a work computer, and I currently am at the stage where I install the bootloader and give the kernel a whirl, so I can check back in with you if this has helped and let you know if this was fully accurate, but it appears to be thus far.
After the LiveCD boots with all of those errors, do the following:
lsmod (you should see the aic7xxx loaded)
rmmod aic7xxx (remove the aic7xxx)
modprobe aic7xxx_old
lsmod (you should see the new module loaded instead)
the newer aic7xxx simply does not work with the scsi chipset on a Asus P2B-DS.. your mileage may vary, but so far this has proven to allow a stable installation environment. |
