This may be somewhat off-topic, but I couldn't decide where to post. Are you aware of any good tools that will help me convert an AVI file to MPEG-2 to burn as a VCD? I have searched on Google, but only Windows tools came up.

It's always good to bury yourself in freshmeat.net or SourceForge when you're in need of software. All I could find in my quick search was DivX tools, but there's bound to be something.

I do it all the time :) They are code heavens on earth :) I'll go check right away.

also if u want to search google, and not come up with windows apps search www.google.com/linux

Check out transcode. The site seems to be down right now, but it is under pretty active development and people have reported strong success doing what you ask. http://www.theorie.physik.uni-goettingen.de/~ostreich/transcode/
