should the lines be as follows
title=Genkernel 2.4.22
root (hd0,2
kernel hd(0,1)/boot/kernel-2.4.22-gentoo-r3 root=/dev/hdc3
initrd hd(0,1)/boot/initrd-2.4.22-gentoo-r3
seems to me the /boot is missing. |

Code: |
default 0
timeout 30
splashimage=(hd0,1)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz
title=Genkernel 2.4.22
root(hd0,2)
kernel(hd0,1)/kernel-2.4.22-gentoo-r3 root=/dev/hdc3
initrd(hd0,1)/initrd-2.4.22-gentoo-r3
title=Windows XP
root(hd0,0)
chainloader (hd0,0)+1 |
I checked, there is no menu.lst |
"root (hd0,2)" tells grub that (hd0,2) has your boot record. But your boot record is actually at (hd0,1). |

I had this same problem and I got it to show up on the menu by putting a space between "root" and "(hd0,0)" (for mine). After this I did have a problem though... when I selected Gentoo through Grub it would just black screen, then show Grub again. I then went in and edited the lines through grub. Which going in (hit 'e') I noticed that the only line it had was "root (hd0,0)" where as if I went it to look at Windows XP it had all the lines that were in my grub.conf file.
So I manually added the second line "kernel (hd0,0)/Jester-2.6 root=/dev/hda3" and told it to boot... low and behold it worked. I hope this helps in any way, but I'm still confused as to why it was this way. I have the second line in the grub.conf file.
Edit: Ok I just bumped a like.. year old post... go me for being stupid and not checking this crap and just following links from the GRUB problems thread. |
