Well, I am just trying this, so I don't know, but I would not do it using genkernel. I don't even know if it works correctly with 2.6 kernels. |

I had the exact same problem until I changed the both the 'linux' and 'linux-beta' symbolic links in /usr/src to point to 'linux-2.6.1-rc2-gentoo'.

I'm doing a Stage 1 install and am to the point of either doing a manual config or genkernel. Being very new, I would prefer to do genkernel, so I went to nano -w /usr/src and that file was empty. Nothing there. ?????
hmmmm, what should I do now? |

/usr/src is a directory. If you emerged a kernel, it should be there, in a subdirectory.
Here's the instructions: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook.xml?part=1&chap=7
Although, if I was you and wanted a 2.6 kernel, I'd emerge the newest gentoo-dev-sources and configure it manually. It has a pretty good default config, so you won't have to change much. Genkernel is really only for 2.4 kernels. |
