I think steel300 is going to add those patches later today or tomorrow, see his posts above. _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra

Same here: 2.6.1-mm1 craps all over the place, usb is flaky, then the wireless dies, and
insmod starts to segfault. In the end only SysRq can reboot the machine |

I've also added a broken-out dir which has the individual patches. |
Is the elv-select.patch that you used the one that's in that directory? If so, you forgot to apply the elv-init-cleanup.patch ...
(or you can use the updated one that was posted in one of the other threads)

Man, i just compiled it, works wonderfull The best thing: I can start x
But i get some errors while booting, where can i see a log of this and show you? Something with "mounting" and syntax error in /etc/init.d/net.eth0. It works, yes, but i don't like errors while booting |

@PrakashKC
We already have the naming scheme in place. It took effect with the first release of -rc2-love1. It is recommended that you delete all of the old ebuilds then start over. If you want the older ebuilds you can redownload them from my site.
I should probabaly explain the naming scheme, so I guess it's my fault.
From now on the names are as follows (I recommend taking a knee like we did in little league and the coach had something important to say):
Patches:
<kernel-version><_[rcX|testX]>-love[Y].patch.bz2
Ebuilds:
love-sources-<kernel-version><_[rcX|testX]>-rY.ebuild
Example:
2.6.1_rc1-love2.patch.bz2
2.6.1-love1.patch.bz2
2.7.0_test7-love3.patch.bz2
love-sources-2.6.1_rc1-r3.ebuild
love-sources-2.6.1_rc2-r1.ebuild
love-sources-2.7.0_test7-r3.ebuild
Any questions? _________________ Rationality is the recognition of the fact that nothing can alter the truth and nothing can take precedence over that act of perceiving it. |

@steel300
OK, sounds good.
BTW, I just booted the new kernel and so far so good. I alsa emerged new bootsplash and now get an annoying "....(can't read).... press f2 for verbose mode" message once init takes over. Anyone having a solution? |

Everyone works on love-sources. I'm just trying to guide things in the right direction.
It was going to be a surprise, but I have found patches for tv-tuner cards. I'll post the details with the new release. _________________ Rationality is the recognition of the fact that nothing can alter the truth and nothing can take precedence over that act of perceiving it. |

While we're at wishing for patches, I'd like to see this re-insterted into love-sources.
The latest patch is against 2.6.0-test9, but applies fine to all higher versions. It's a module, so it shouldn't cause any trouble for people who don't use it.
It does keep down my power bill though. _________________ Please put [SOLVED] in your topic if you are a moron. |

Damn, kexec still craps ot shutting down, ie. my machine just hangs instead of doing atx off. That's why back in the days Lovechild took kexec out of love patchset.
AAaaarghhh. I can't revert kexec out of kernel! Getting a lot of rejects. COuld you make a patchset without kexec? I think more than just me will have above problems and only a few people actually have a need for kexec. |

I rebooted and saw the error:
"Missing Dependency Info!" bla "run /sbin/depscan.sh" bla "net.eth0 dependencies" . So i did. rebooted. same error again.
And i saw another error too: alsactl or something... But would be big help if i would know where to look at these init logs.
MrNugget
PS: the pwcx modul for my webcam doesn't work.. damn
//edit: There's a new pwcx version d'oh

The people gettin g hard-lock-ups:
Are you using nforce2 mobos? I noticed the current kernel doesn't contain the nforce2-apic work-around, ie doesn't disable cpu disconnect. YOu can check via this (if your lock doesn't happen too soon):
emerge athcool
athcool stat
It should report that that bit is NOT set. You can unset that bit with this tool. I wonder why Andrew took that patch out. |

Me uses nforce2 board... But what is a g hard-lock-up ? Everything works fine.. expect the errors ( see above ) and when insmodding the pwcx modul the computer freezes.
Do i have to compile something special in when insmoding? |

@PrakashKC
Many thanks, I was having severe problems and went back to 2.6.1_rc2_love.
It annoying being a noob as I don't know how to find out these answers on my own!
Still, I'm learning so much using these love-sources.
Time to reboot to 2.6.1_love1 and unset the power svaing mode.
Edit:
That did it; Wedge has also put a link to a patch (below) which compiles flawlessly and now all is well...

Nope sorry, Intel 440BX chipset, pentium3 450. Hard to get more generic It seems to be dying for me in the networking code. |

I must've missed that one, sorry. steel300, do you want to put that into the next release?

There were 4 or 5 rejects when I applied it. I'll post a new version without it, I didn't know it would cause problems with normal shutdowns like that.

I thought it was still there or I would have added it in. This should apply cleanly to 2.6.1-love1. _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra

for all people getting weird oops/sigfaults it is module-init-tool's fault, if you're using the 3.0_pre* downgrade to 0.9.15_pre14.
i found out this after recompiling the kernel 5 times....

Arg I just got my IGP working fully with no crashes on 2.6.1-rc2-love1. The patch is here:
http://unixhead.org/docs/thinkpad/pakman-2.6.1-rc2-love1.diff
That needs the other igp patch applied first, although now they've changed the radeon modules in 2.6.1 I'm not sure if it'll work anymore. Will experiment and post back if I get success. Gonna test first with the vanilla kernels IGP module, hopefully that has full support now.
update; vanilla 2.6.1 doesn't work properly with DRM here.
(WW) RADEON(0): Mismatched FB location. Incorrect version of DRM kernel driver is used.
will try putting a working patch together. |

I'll upload a new version of the patch, which removes kexec, adds the nForce2 APIC fix, and adds that elv-select patch I missed. I'm just waiting for the diff at the moment. _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra

@MrNugget
It is a typo. I just was referring hard lock-up or freeze, where the machine reacts to NOTHING anymore, ie you have to reboot.
@Wedge_
very well. |
